Maple Mountain High School February students of the month

http://mmhs.nebo.edu/news/february-students-month

Maple Mountain High announces the February students of the month. Congrats on being a great example to the rest of us.

In five years, sophomore Yalaina Linford sees herself attending BYU and working towards becoming an elementary school teacher, as well as a seminary teacher. Yalaina’s doesn’t have a favorite subject because she loves learning.

Her favorite quote is, "All that we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." – Gandalf. She likes that quote because it brings out the fact that we can’t always choose our circumstances, but we can choose our attitudes and actions.

Yalaina’s favorite hobbies include playing drawing, sculpting, reading, horseback riding, and cooking. One thing that makes her different from everyone else is that she closes her eyes whenever there is violence on T.V. or in movies.

In five years, Sophomore Casey Brown plans to have graduated high school, completed one year of college and be serving an LDS mission. His favorite subject is drama because he gets to explore and express himself without being worried about what others think.

His favorite quote is, "Nothing is impossible; the word itself says, ‘I’m possible!’" – Audrey Hepburn. He likes this quote because it shows that anything is possible if you work hard. One thing that makes Casey different is that he is a very social person.

Casey’s hobbies include track, cross country, and acting. The funniest thing that happened to him was when he was dancing on a chair at a Halloween party, fell off, and hit his head. He ended up going to the emergency room dressed as a girl because it was his Halloween costume.

Junior Julia Raymen plans to either be on an LDS mission, studying in college, or traveling. Her favorite subjects in school are zumba because it makes her feel so fit and healthy and astronomy because she could understand it.

Her favorite quote is, "Credendo vidas,” which is Latin and means “by believing one sees.” It is from her favorite movie, “The magical Voyage of the Unicorn.”

Julia’s favorite hobbies include reading, writing, dancing, and singing in her room. One thing that makes her stand out is that she is sensitive which makes her good at listening.

Junior Kyle Hansen sees himself in five years returned from an LDS mission and married in the temple. His favorite subjects in school are seminary, welding, and photography.

His favorite quote is, "Let they bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish they thoughts unceasingly; then shall they confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distill upon thy soul as the dews from heaven." – D&C 131:45. One thing that makes Kyle different from everyone else is that he is always willing to help other people.

Kyle’s hobbies are rock climbing, photography, welding, and mechanics. The funniest thing that happened to him was when he fell asleep in computer tech. While asleep, he dreamed that he was falling, jerked awake, and knocked the computer monitor onto the ground.

In five years, Senior Kelsie Glassford plans to be working as a hair stylist and going to college. She enjoys her ASL class because she likes to use her fingers to talk and finds it fun to learn a new language.

Her favorite quote is, "Her love is like the wind. You can’t see it, but you can feel it." One thing that makes Kelsie stand out from everyone else is her laugh and smile.

Kelsie’s hobbies include reading, singing, playing with children, and laughing.

In five years, Senior Caleb Russell sees himself still as a child; he’ll still be excited about life and learning and still be able to trust and wonder as a child would. He doesn’t want to lose that innocence and become cold and cynical as so much of the world has become. His favorite class was Mr. Miner’s AP U.S. History Class. He found it fascinating to learn about history through such a dynamic person.

His favorite quote is, "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Caleb likes that quote because caring for people should always come first because through caring we open ourselves and others to countless possibilities and experiences. He thinks we connect with them more deeply than we ever could just by showing off our knowledge.

Caleb’s favorite hobbies are spending time with family and close friends. He loves helping other people, and scouting has always been a significant part of my life. Other than that, he likes reading, writing poetry, composing music, and discussing existentialistic and theological topics.

Caleb stands out from everyone else because his parents have been so great at rearing him in a way to understand right and wrong. He usually tries to think of what would make my parents most proud when he’s making a decision.

Maple Mountain High welders take 2nd place among over 30 schools.

You may not think about welders every day. However, every time you drive a car, walk into a commercial building like "The Mall", get water from your tap, drive on a bridge, or one of hundreds of other places or services, you can thank welders for helping to build the infrastructure that we enjoy.  Maple Mountain High has some of the best talent around when it come to welders.

Stetson West, Mr. Massic, Kyle Hansen, and Daniel Jensen pose at the welding competition.

Maple Mountain High School participated in the first Nebo District welding competition. This year’s competition was held at Spanish Fork High School. Each school in the district brought their top three welders to represent their welding programs. MMHS took second place in the school standings, with SFHS taking first, PHS 3rd, SHHS 4th and SHS 5th. At the end of March, the top welder for each school will go compete at state held at Salt Lake Community College against more than 30 other schools. In five years, sophomore Jezni Widdison sees herself in college working on a bachelor’s degree and living on her own. She also hopes to be traveling and dating the man of her dreams. Jezni’s favorite subject is English because she loves to read and learning about different styles of writing. English helps her to go beyond the surface and gives her a chance to be creative.
Her favorite quote is, "There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." – Nelson Mandela. She explains that “if we’re not living our lives to the very fullest and not reaching our highest potential, then what can we say we’ve accomplished? This quote applies to me because I’m always striving to do my best in every aspect of my life.”
Jezni’s favorite hobbies include playing softball, volleyball, reading, writing, spending time with family and friends, listening to music, and playing the guitar. One thing that makes her different from everyone else is that she has a strong sense of who she is and of who she wants to become.

Sophomore Jeson Martin plans to be attending college in five years. His current interest in school is welding and weight training because they are his most fun classes.
His favorite quote is, "Do the things you want to do before the opportunity passes because any day could be your last." - Unknown. One thing that makes Jeson different is that he always tries to be nice to everyone, and he works hard to keep up his grades.
Jeson’s hobbies include learning to drive my truck, playing on the computer, and playing football with friends. The funniest thing that happened to him was when he fell off the stairs into the bushes at his mom and step-dad’s wedding.

Junior Megan Larsen plans to serve an LDS mission in five years. Her favorite subject in school is psychology. She’s always amazed at how complex the human mind is.
Her favorite quote is, "Life is too short to be wasted on sadness.” – Unknown. This quote says it all to Megan. She explains, “sure, bad things happen to everyone, but the important thing to remember is that those negative things do not have to control your life. Be happier because it’s easier than being sad.”
Megan’s favorite hobbies include spending time with my family and friends because they lift her up and help her become a better person everyday. She learns from them and loves creating lasting memories with them.

Junior Nathan Jeffery sees himself going to college at BYU in five years and expects to be a returned LDS missionary and an eagle scout. He also plans to be in the Cougar Marching Band and have a part-time job. His favorite subject in school is physics. He likes to learn how the world works and why things happen the way they do.
His favorite quote is, "From the day you were born ‘til you get in the hearse, there’s nothing so bad but what it could be worse." – Helen Stirland. He likes this quote because his grandma would always quote it to him when he was having a difficult time. He’s heard it so much that it’s gone to heart.
Nathan’s hobbies are reading, playing the piano, and hanging out with friends. I especially love marching in the band and winter drumline. One thing that makes Nathan different from everybody else is that he shares a birthday with Dr. Seuss, only 91 years apart.

In five years, Senior Chelsea Scutt plans to be almost done with getting a master’s degree in nursing or physical therapy, and she plans to graduate debt-free. Her favorite subject is any music class. This is because they relax her, and she gets to spend time with friends while creating beautiful music. His favorite subject is psychology. He loves people and finds it very interesting to study how they think and behave. He feels like the quality of life can be improve by having an awareness of the human condition.
His favorite quote is, "Deserve what you get, if you can.” – His Grandpa. Ty likes that quote as it suggests that life is meaningful because we have worked for the things that we have, not because we have so much. That perspective gives him joy in the tasks of everyday living.
Ty’s favorite hobbies are playing the guitar and drums. His favorite past time is song writing. He has occasionally played in local rock shows and recorded in a studio.
