Prep of the Week, Kevin Rose, Maple Mountain High School

Kevin is a sophomore and an honor roll student at MMHS. He plays #1 Singles for the Varsity Tennis Team and has had some great wins against opponents from Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Ogden, and Uintah in our season thus far. He is a great asset to the tennis team because of his good sportmanship, his easy going personality, and his high level of skill. He helped lead our team to a third place win at Duel in the Desert in St. George. Congratulations Kevin for being the Prep of the Week!

Prep of the Week, Tarin Strosser, Maple Mountain High School

Tarin Strosser is a sophomore on the Maple Mountain girls track team. Tarin's main events are the hurdles - 100m and 300m hurdles. Tarin won both hurdle events at the Timpanogos Invitational this past weekend helping her team to a strong 2nd place finish out of the 25 teams entered. Tarin is also a member of the MMHS girls basketball team. Congratulations Tarin!

March Students of the Month. Maple Mountain High School

Maple Mountain High announces the March students of the month.
 In five years, Sophomore Erica Olesen sees herself attending college figuring out her new, bright future. Erica favorite subject in school is math because everything has an answer, and it is very precise.
Her favorite quote is, "Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt to you, it’s your choice on how you play it." She likes that quote because it helps her remember that everybody is different and that you shouldn’t need to compare yourself to others.
Erica’s favorite hobbies include playing softball, cooking, and sewing. One thing that makes her different from everyone else is that she is positive and determined. 
In five years, Sophomore Brayden Jackman plans to be attending a university, working towards degrees in business and medicine. His favorite subject is jazz band because he gets to develop skills in which he has a great interest.
 His favorite quote is, "Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work." – Aristotle. Brayden likes this quote because it is encouraging to remind him that if he finds something that he enjoys and works at it, he will be able to do it well. One thing that makes him different is his ability to quote entire movie scenes and comedy routines after seeing them once.
Brayden’s hobbies include playing the upright and electric bass, writing music and stories, listening to jazz, class rock, and audio books, and fishing and golfing.
Junior Kylee Dixon plans to be attending Utah State or Snow College to get her degree in nursing. She also wants to get married in the temple. Her favorite subject in school was history because it allowed her to go to Washington D.C.. 
Her favorite quote is, "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” She likes that quote because it just reminds her that you should always be who you are and that you don’t need to change for anyone.
Kylee’s favorite hobbies include singing, cooking, reading, and being with her family.
 
Junior Brent Blas sees himself in five years married and working as a chief. He enjoys all his classes because he likes learning new stuff and all the teachers.
His favorite quote is, "I wish I could show them that they don’t’ own me. If I’m going to die, I want to still be me." – Peeta. He likes that quote because if he were in Peeta’s position, he wants to die being himself. One thing that makes Brent different from everyone else is that he loves being a peer tutor and helping other people.
In five years, Senior Heidi Johnson plans to be attending college and pursuing a degree in forensic science. She enjoys most subjects because she enjoys learning.
Her favorite quote is, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." – Abraham Lincoln
Heidi’s hobbies include reading, sewing, and listening to music. One thing that makes Heidi stand out is that she is a vegetarian. 
In five years, Senior Jake Harding sees himself attending college and majoring in music. His favorite class was AP Music Theory because he figured out what his college major is going to be.
His favorite quote is, "Good deeds are always dangerous.” – Rick Riordan. Jake likes that quote because it’s important to serve our fellow men regardless of how dangerous or usual if might be. 
Jake’s favorite hobbies making music, rappelling, and writing fantasy novels. He is different from everyone else because he can be anyone’s friend and has an unusual creativity.

Megan Elmont Prep of the week Maple Mountain High School

Megan Elmont is a sophomore sprinter on the Maple Mountain girls track team. This past week Megan qualified for state in three events: the 4 x 100m relay team, the long jump, and the 200 meters. Megan's relay team placed first at the Timpanogos Invitational.  She also won the long jump and took 2nd in the 200m. Congratulations Megan!

Skills USA State Competition

Last week several students competed at the State Skills USA competition. Decker Nielson Competed for Job interview, Brian Wood competed for Photography. Stetson West tied for 9th place out of 23 for Individual Welding. Jeff Anderson, Cody Covington, and Kyle Hansen took 4th place in Welding Fabrication. Amanda Petersen, Katelyn Nielson, and Zachary Jacobson took 2nd place for Crime Scene Investigation. Congratulate these students for all their hard work.

Outstanding Wrestling Accomplishments

Last week we had several wrestlers represent Maple Mountain High at the High School National Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Brooks Robinson, Landon Knutzen, Grant LaMont, Kimball Bastian, and Jesse Carlisle all wrestled in the tournament. Kimball Bastian placed 3rd in the nation and earned All-American status. Grant LaMont lost a close one in overtime for the championship to place second in the nation and also earned All American Status. If you see them tell them congratulations.

Congrats to Maple Mountain High School's hard working wrestlers. Thanks for representing our school so well. 

Miss Springville / Mapleton Pagent

Abbey Eriksson was crowned Miss Springville-Mapleton 2012 at the pageant held at Springville High School on March 31, 2012. Cheyenne Murillo is first attendant and Kaisa Goodman is second attendant. Additional pageant contestants were Natalie Hickey, Haley Hoffman, Jenni Billings, and Mckenzy Smith.
The evening was emceed by Allan Mount and Alexandria Murillo, Miss Springville-Mapleton 2011. After the National Anthem, all of the contestants performed the opening production number, set to the pageant’s theme “The Best is Yet to Come.” Wearing black costumes and top hats, each girl was introduced to the cheers of the crowd.
The contestants then participated in the four areas of the pageant: Lifestyle & Fitness in Swimsuit; Talent; On-stage Interview; and Evening Wear.
Natalie Hickey, the daughter of John and Emily Hickey, performed a monologue titled “Roller Coaster Breakup.” Her platform was “Inspire Literacy,” and her hostess was Jessica Smith. Natalie is a senior at Maple Mountain High School. She loves to act, and plans to attend BYU in the fall to pursue a career as a health and physical education teacher.
Haley Hoffman, the daughter of Dave and Jennifer Hoffman, performed a vocal solo, “L.O.V.E.” Her platform was “Honor the Beauty Within,” and her hostess was Emily Peterson. Haley is a junior at Springville High School and is also taking course at UVU. She sings with SHS choirs and plans to pursue a career in fashion design and textiles.
Abbey Eriksson, the daughter of Paul and Amber Eriksson, performed a contemporary dance solo titled “Hometown.” Her platform was “Your Voice, Your Vote,” and her hostess was Kami Creer. Abbey, a senior at Maple Mountain High School, has been dancing since the age of four. She has performed with numerous ballet groups and plans to attend UVU, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Dance.
Jenni Billings, the daughter of Richard and Betsy Billings, performed a Contemporary Ballet piece, “Glory.” Her platform was “Inspiring Youth through the Arts,” and her hostess was Emily Johnson. Jenni has been dancing since the age of three. She is a student at UVU, majoring in Ballet Performance. She enjoys all types of dance, and plans to pursue a career as a professional dancer and choreographer.
Kaisa Goodman, the daughter of Michael and Tina Goodman, performed a Classical Vocal number, “Love Look Away.” Her platform was “Adoption, a Great Option,” and her hostess was Katrina Witt. Kaisa has sung all her life and trained in classical singing for the past three years. She will attend Dixie State College in the fall, where she has received scholarships for academics and soccer. She plans to pursue a major in Nursing and a minor in Vocal Performance.
Cheyenne Murillo, the daughter of Alex and Robin Murillo, performed a Jazz Dance, “Libertango.” Her platform was “Art with a Heart,” and her hostess was Andrea Robertson. Cheyenne started dancing at four years of age and performs with Center Stage Studios. Cheyenne is a student at Maple Mountain High School. After high school, she plans to major in Business with a minor in Culinary Arts. She hopes to have her own business in Fashion Design and Merchandising.
Mckenzy Smith, the daughter of Reed and Kari Smith, performed a monologue titled “Addictions,” which she wrote herself. Her platform was “Seeing the Positive through the Negative,” and her hostess was Nikki Kappas. Mckenzy is a senior at Springville High School, where she enjoys participating in Drama. She will attend UVU in the fall, focusing on Humanitarian Service and Theatre, and hopse to dedicate her career to addiction prevention.
The pageant also featured dance and vocal performances by Miss Springville-Mapleton 2011, Alexandria Murillo, and host Allan Mount.
Cheyenne Murillo was recognized for raising $405 for the pageant’s National Platform, Children’s Miracle Network. Jenni Billings was awarded the Spirit of Miss Springville-Mapleton recognition, and Abbey Eriksson was named Most Photogenic.
Pageant co-directors were Heather Randall, Rebeka Gappmayer, and Karin Smith. Judges were Renata Smith, Traci Smith, Michael Miller, Dallas Dean, and Renea Scott.
